The Fluorescent Brightener is not white, but a colorless dye. Its whitening principle is that it absorbs ultraviolet rays in sunlight (wavelength: 300-400nm), excites electrons in molecules, and when it returns to the ground state, part of the ultraviolet energy disappears, and is converted into blue violet visible light with low energy (wavelength: 420-500nm).

It counteracts the feeling of yellow color caused by too much yellow light in the reflected light on the fabric, and mixes with the focused yellow light reflected on the fabric into white light. The fabric not only adds whiteness, but also reflectivity, so that the brightness of the fabric is improved, which is more pleasing to the eye than ordinary bleached fabrics and has a brightening effect on light colored fabrics.


Generally, the electrons in the molecule are arranged on the orbital below the N orbital, which is called the ground state. After a molecule absorbs photons, an electron in the ground state is excited to an anti bonding molecular orbital (electron excited state), which is called an electronic transition. The energy difference between the adjacent electron levels in the molecule is about 1 to 20 EV, which is equivalent to the energy of ultraviolet and visible light. Therefore, the necessary condition for electronic transition is that the substance needs to be illuminated by ultraviolet or visible light. Only when the energy of the illuminating light is equal to the transition energy of valence electrons can the light be absorbed.
